If a Bird Flu Pandemic becomes pandemic there are a 4 steps to help increase the chances of survival for you and your family.
1. Wash your hands. Frequent hand washing is the best way to avoid a viral infection including the flu. Remember to use soap and warm water, and to scrub all parts of the hand. Shoot for a minute and get between the fingers, and underneath fingernails. A good way to make sure you are doing it long enough or with children is have them sing their favorite song.
2. Have a plan. Many people at this time are beginning to think of plans and letting the rest of the family know of their plans. Still some are not creating bird flu plans. Recommendations are to stay home. Don’t go to work, don’t go to school. Stay away from grocery stores, being hungry for a couple of days is better than getting the bird flu. Conserve what food you do have to make it last longer. Be smart about this, prepare ahead of time. Just stay home.
3. Cough into Tissue. Never cough or sneeze into the air. If you do not have a tissue use the top part of your sleeve. Always cover your mouth and then immediately wash your hands as in step 1. Remove tissues as soon as you can.
4. Eat a balanced diet. Plenty of vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. Drink a lot of water, alcohol in moderation only, get plenty of sleep, and exercise.
